WHAT IS THE WOODLANDS G.R.E.E.N.?
The Woodlands GrassRoots Environmental Education Network, a tax-deductible
education organization that promotes natural resource conservation,
recycling, solid waste reduction, safe and sensible care of our air
and water resources, and other responsible actions that protect the
environment and its inhabitants.
WHAT DOES THE WOODLANDS G.R.E.E.N. DO?
- Initiated Recycling in The Woodlands - now included as
part of community association services
- Earth Day Festival co-organizer - annually since 1990, with hands-on activities and booths focused on protecting our natural environment for future generations
- Sponsor Texas Recycles Day and The Woodlands Landscaping Solutions programs
- Donate educational materials to Montgomery County Public Libraries
- Publish The Dragon Circle - newsletter of The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. published three times a year
- Sponsor the Buy Recycled Boutique - providing markets for recycled products
- Promote a Health-E House - promoting non-toxic solutions for home and garden that are safer for the environment
- Promote recycling - expanding recycling opportunities beyond curbside at public events, swim meets, July 4th parade, triathons, and Habitat for Humanity ReStore
- Your Local Environmental Information Network
- Walk in the Woods Lecture Series - since 2000, sponsor the popular lecture series spotlighting the diversity of nature in our backyards
- GREEN Student Ambassadors - since the Fall of 2005
- Walk to School program sponsor - since 2002
- Habitat for Humanity Restore Sponsor - since 2004
- Mosquito Monitoring Project with Montgomery County - since 2004, and funded intern for study in 2004
- Initiated Christmas Tree Recycling Projects in 1989 -
trees became fish habitats in lakes, Gulf Coast erosion barriers, and
compost in residents' yards and community parks. Programs are
currently run by the Community Associations.
- Feed the Dragon Village Challenges - since 1990, annual
community-wide competition emphasizing a recycling or conservation goal..
- Ecology Button Contests - since 1991, annual school
environmental design contest
